VIDEO POST - product review & nobody watches me but it's okay

1. My blog is garnetbeauty, not emeraldbeauty =.=
Emeraldbeauty was the name I originally wanted but it was already taken. I forgot that while filming.
2.Turn your volume up and your bass down low. And put your headphones on ;)

SKINCARE POST - my personal experiences with acne

1. About me
I’m not an expert when it comes to skincare, but I have been suffering from acne for 10 years. All the following is based on my personal experiences.
English is not my first language, so my apologies for the spelling mistakes.

2. My skin
To get an idea what I’m talking about;
I have DRY and OILY skin.
Yes, that is possible. Dry, because of lack of moisture, and oily because of an overdose of sebum.

3. Remedies
1. Clearasil
Even though a popular product, I would not recommend Clearasil. It may work for you at first, but in the end, the chemicals are way too harsh and will dry your face out and make your skin red.
It is a cheap solution, but not the best one.
Second; the products of Clearasil are expensive compared to the higher end brands, that are better for your skin.
I know it may be tempting to use this, because it DOES HELP to get rid of your bumps, but think about it, it's not skin CARE, and you want to take care of your skin.

2. Scrubs
It is best not to scrub your face. Scrubbing can make acne worse, by irritating the skin. You may wash your face gently, using your hands instead of a washcloth (washcloths are very rough as well). If your acne isn’t that bad anymore, and you do want to scrub, be careful which scrub gel you use. The little parts musn’t be too sharp.
Also, don’t scrub too harshly with sugar, and certainly not with salt. I know it may sound tempting, but you are not helping your skin with it. You’re rubbing it open and making it easier for bacterial infections to get into your skin.
If you do use sugar don't rub it in too hard, and be careful.

3. Washing your face
Don’t wash your face too often, excess washing can cause irriation.
Don’t rub your face dry, gently pat it dry, again, rubbing may cause irritation.
Use lukewarm water, too hot or too cold water can dry out your skin.
Don’t use harsh cleansers or soap (such as clearasil ;) ), they can dry your skin out and strip of natural lipids. Rinse your face well, it’s important that no soap or cleanser stays on and clogs your pores.

4. Moisturizing
This may sound strange, but EVERYONE needs a moisturizer. Even people with very oily skin need it. Not to add moisture, but to help the skin retain moisture and protect itself.
However, people with acne shouldn’t use the same moisturizers as people without.
The most important thing is to search for a moisturizer that fits your skin-type and is "oil-free," "noncomedogenic," or "nonacnegenic."
Noncomedogenic products won't clog your pores.

5. Birth Control
This has helped me out wonderfully. However, consult your doctor before taking this step. There are some negative sides to birth control as well.
Acne often has hormonal causes, and this can help.

6. Vitamins
Make sure to eat healthy and get enough vitamins. Vitamins A, B2, C and D are the most important ones concerning skin care.

7. Home-made remedies
Do an internet search about the tons and tons of home-made remedies out there, such as honey and aspirin masks. And I'll post some of my favourites on here as well ^^

Sooooo good luck
And remember, you are more than your acne, okay? It may bring you down but there's more to you than your skin.

RANDOM POST - favourite gurus on youtube!

These are some of my favourite beauty gurus on youtube!

I love listening to this girl because she's so real. She's not afraid to show that she's hurt, and she's very open about everything. This girl even talks about shaving her private parts on youtube! When you've been watching her videos for quite some time, it really starts to feel like she's a friend of yours. The fact that she always talks about subjects that matter to a lot of people helps as well.

Blair is just... Well, let's just say she lives a life a lot of girls are jealous of. She's still young but she knows her facts. Watching her videos always makes me cheerful. She talks pretty fast but I have no problem understanding her.

I'm crazy about Heart. She's the sweetest girl on youtube, and has a very nice voice. Listening to her is very  pleasant. She's got a great boyfriend, and they look amazing together. There's a lot of love going on, and he stars in quite some of her videos, which is just lovely.

Jarmaine is pretty well known on youtube I guess. She's got a quirky personality, and it's a lot of fun to watch her. As you may have noticed already, I like gurus with personality! I used to love Michelle Phan but ever since she's been getting more professional I don't like watching her as much anymore.
I selected on of her advice videos to put on here, because I love to watch those as well.

Dulce is a beautiful mother of a son, and a great guru. I love her accent. She does a lot of hauls and her makeup videos are always top notch. She's also got a blogspot (with custom domain name, dulcecandy.com) where she posts a lot of outfit of the days. Fashionista.

Check them out!

SKINCARE POST - homemade facial (scrub, cleanse and moisturize!!)

It’s January already! I can’t believe it, feels like I’ve only started school again yesterday… I’m sure some of you are experiencing stress right now, exams are happening right now!!

So that’s why I wanted to share a new blog post with you guys!
This is a homemade recipe that’s not only great for your skin, but will also make you feel nice and relaxed.

You’ll need grapes, regular white flour, crushed ice, plain sugar, honey and brown sugar.
I know, it sounds yucky to put all of that together, but just trust me.

So, what you want to do is squeeze the juice out of the grapes. You want to put the juice in a small bowl and add some white flower. Stir this up until you’ve got a nice paste and then add the plain sugar. Mix it up again and add some crushed ice.
The reason you’re adding crushed ice is that it’ll make the paste a bit more fluid and a lot cooler. This will feel refreshing on your skin.

You can put this first mix in the fridge while you prepare your second mix.

You take the brown sugar and put it in a bowl, then you add some honey. Again, add crushed ice for that cooling sensation.
Okay, before you start to think I’m trying to make you cook, clean your face. Remove all makeup. I used Garnier products for this.

Then take your first mix and apply it generously all over your skin. You want to let this sit for a few minutes, and then you use it as a scrub. Try not to be too rough! Don’t be afraid of putting white flour on your face, it’s actually used in homemade face paints for children as well, and it’s totally safe.
Garnier came out with a line based on grape juice by the way, and I really love it, as I said, I used this to clean my face before I started with this homemade facial.

Wash of the paste and dry your skin.

Then you should add the honey & sugar mask. Honey is extremely moisturizing and I really like the way it smells as well ^^
Just put a very generous amount on your skin and lay down for five minutes. You will be able to feel your skin revive!
Wash it off and just apply your moisturizer.

When I did this my skin felt very clean and refreshed =)

Good luck!

NAIL POST: how to - rose nails

While I love skin care and make up, my best friend is crazy about nails and nail art.
She's an amazing artist, and I just love it when she does my nails. I always end up with something original ;)

I want to feature her on this blog because I think she deserves to be known for what she can do with nails, so I asked her to make a tutorial for these nails.

They are perfect for an innocent yet sophisticated style, and go great with vintage and white lace.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

*Basecoat by essence (nail art protecting base coat)
*Insider (46) by essence (multi dimension)
*Nr 503 by L’oréal Jet-Set diamant
*Nr 337 by Yes Love
*In the jungle (10) by essence
*Pacific UK van New Look
*Dotting tool

TUTORIAL

1 Apply a basecoat

2 Apply background colour

3 Apply 4 dots of nailpolish, use different colours. You can use any colour, but for the "rose" effect, it's best to go with white and red. With your dotting tool, draw circles through the nailpolish. Make sure you don't completly mix up the colours.

4 Add leaves with your dotting tool. Normally, two leaves are added on one side of the flower, and one on the other side. Don't stress about making the leaves perfect, flowers in nature are all different from each other as well =)

5 When your nails are completly dry, you can use a sheer topcoat. I like to use a nailpolish that has a bit of glitter to it, for extra shimmer.

Be creative: try positioning the roses differently on different nails, try another background color and even other colors for your roses etc.
Practice makes perfect, and it's so fun to play around with this pattern =)

Good luck!!

FOUNDATION POST

PRODUCT NAME: Corrector Fluid Foundation by La Roche-Posay tolériane

DESCRIPTION:
For two years, I used to be an ELF. I’m not talking about the Super Junior fanclub here, but about the shade I used to wear every single day.
Corrector Fluid Foundation was a life-saver for me. I had terrible skin, and this foundation was the first one that actually really helped me.
The creamy texture gives amazing coverage. It hides red spots or light acne scars.
Because this foundation is made for people with problem skin, it does not break you out.
I do think it’s a bit too creamy though, and it really feels like you’re smearing something on. I don’t like the feeling of wearing a “mask”, so I stopped using it.
I’m not too fond of the colour range either. In my opinion, they should make a lighter lightest colour. It’s still a bit too dark for that typical pale skin.
However, this is a life-saver for those of you with extremely bad skin. So go buy it!

PRICE: about €17
BUY AGAIN?:
Sure, I still like this. I use this when I need heavier coverage or when I go out at night.
I found a better lightweight foundation, so stay tuned for that review ^^

Have a nice day,

Evelien
